Nicalert - Semi-quantitative, simple but accurate cotinine test GASP is often asked for an effective method to demonstrate secondhand smoke exposure. We can now offer a simple but extremely accurate test called NicAlert that determines the level of cotinine (a nicotine metabolite) in urine. It detects nicotine from all tobacco products, from smoking, breathing secondhand smoke and nicotine replacement products. It is a fast, easy to use disposable strip and does not require a machine or a qualified person to read the result.
The cotinine test will show positive even if you have only been exposed to a smoky environment for one hour in the past 2 to 3 days. A positive result of 1 or higher means that you have been exposed to secondhand smoke in the past 2 days if you are not a smoker. A positive result of 3 or higher shows that you smoke and indicates the level of nicotine dependency. Box contains instructions, colour chart, urine pot, and Nicalert dip strip. Effective and simple to use.
