APRIL is easy-to-use, software that encourages young people and adults to stop smoking or better still never to start. APRIL is an innovative way of demonstrating the harmful effects of smoking on facial appearance. APRIL ages an individual's face from youth to adulthood as a non-smoker and as a pack-a-day smoker. It graphically predicts the premature wrinkling and loss of skin tone caused by tobacco smoking. It can be used in community events, science or health fairs and education or health settings.

APRIL is based on a study of more than 7000 faces of different ages, ethnicity, lifestyles and the actual physical characteristics of aging and effects of smoking. APRIL uses a scanned photo or image taken by digital camera connected to the computer.

The user enters basic information and can add a combination of the effects of smoking, sun exposure or both. Two images then show an animation of aging. One image shows typical facial changes of aging. The other adds the skin tones and wrinkling typical of adult smokers. The software can print the images. You need a desktop or laptop computer with 3D graphics card and a compatible digital camera. A projector can be used to show a group of students. The Optimal version includes a year of software support and point updates at Ј350.
