GASP’s Blokes who Smoke Stop Smoking Challenge

GASP reached into the industrial heartland of Bristol’s inner city workshops and warehouses on No Smoking Day with a stall for Blokes who Smoke.  Staff from GASP offered CO breath testing, one-to-one stop smoking advice and ‘Blokes who Smoke’ goody bags of information and gifts.  GASP also referred blokes who no longer want to smoke to the local NHS stop smoking services. Over twenty men visited the stall, including couriers, for this small but successful event.

GASP helped FRESH North East

GASPhelped FRESH North East to launch their No Smoking Day ‘Great Challenge’ by making a giant cigarette to be stubbed out on a target heart.  The launch was on Valentine’s Day so it linked the heart with the No Smoking Day target image.

The picture shows the heart posing beside the iconic Angel of the North.

 NEW ARTICLES

There are now 2 new articles available here

One has some tips on how to run a 'No Smoking Day' stall and is split into two parts.
The other contains tips on how to market your 'No Smoking Day' events towards the 'hard to reach' groups of smokers

GASP is now fully international.

With the success of the World Health Organisation’s Framework Convention for Tobacco Control signed by almost 200 countries, there is increasing demand for tobacco control resources worldwide. GASP has translated some popular resources into European and Asian languages and now has prices in Euros and dollars to meet the demand from the global market.

It was a busy year for GASP. UKsmokefree legislation put a high demand for GASP’s products. GASP’s Big Cig strutted his stuff around the streets of many UKtowns and cities. In the county of Dorset in Southern England, Big Cig met a nasty end when the public voted to get him ‘fired’. He went on the run in the woods but was tracked down and shot with paintballs.  See the video of his tragic end on www.goodbyebigcig.nhs.uk

The new APRIL Age Progression software has provided many smokers with a look to the future.

The software digitally ages a photo to show just how smoking can prematurely wrinkle and damage the skin. GASP not only sells the software but will also come and run a roadshow for you with a trained technician. We can arrange a trial for you. You can also send us you own digital photo that we can age for you! Scarey!

GASP played a role in making No Smoking Day a big success. In summer of 2007 Cecilia Farren from GASP was awarded membership by distinction of the Faculty of Public Health of the Royal College of Physicians. This was in recognition of her many years tobacco control advocacy. GASP's website was selected to be part of the UK Web Archiving Consortium Project and Wellcome Library to represent aspects of UKdocumentary heritage needs. If you need help with a project or campaign, GASP is happy to help. Whatever you need - just ask.
