Toxins in tobacco smoke warning supported by Roger Black

Olympian Roger Black visited the GASP stall at the UKNSCC conference in July 2008.  Here he is photographed with Cecilia Farren from GASP.  The stall was set up using GASP models and displays, What’s Your Poison? What’s in Tobacco Smoke? and Puffing Poisons, all showing the toxins in tobacco smoke with the addition of hazard warnings and chemical names of some of the killer contents in cigarette smoke.

Cecilia was kitted out in a hazard suit, gas mask and goggles to highlight the cocktail of noxious and cancer-causing chemicals breathed in by smokers and non-smokers in secondhand smoke.  These include arsenic, ammonia, cyanide, nitrosamines, formaldehyde and polonium 210.

Cecilia reported, “The stall was very popular and captured people’s attention.  Over the two days hundreds of people including Roger Black, visited the stall, took photos and asked how to recreate the display in their local health centres and community centres.”

She added, “Toxins in Tobacco Smoke display was so popular that for the 2009 catalogue GASP will be offering the complete display set with the accessories for sale and for hire.  But sorry girls, Roger Black doesn’t come with it!”
