Organisations across Wales who
have reduced tobacco use or helped
people to quit have been recognised
and rewarded with a Tobacco Control
Excellence Award for Wales.
The awards, new for 2011, recognised
and celebrated the achievements
being made by creative and
innovative initiatives in the areas of
tobacco prevention and cessation
and showcasing the best examples
of excellence in tobacco control
throughout Wales.
One example of the initiatives taken
out by the winners were Millbank
Primary school who increased the
education with regards to tobacco
and smoking within Year 10 of the
school. Another example is cancer
charity Tenovus who took their
mobile unit and health checks to
two areas in South Wales where
adult smoking rates and lung cancer
incidence was high.
The winners were awarded prizes
from GASP, No Smoking Day and
Bedfont and were divided into five
categories by Organisation:

Smoking Cessation Service
Highly Commended: Cardiff and
University Health Board
Statutory and local authority:
Winner: City and County of Swansea
Environment department
Highly Commended: Stop Smoking
